Trekking can include visits to tourist sites as well. For example, you can trek some parts of the Great Wall of China in a day. Parts of the Great Wall are very steep.

Trekking can include additional things to do on the way, besides walking! For example, you can meet up with Mongolian horsemen for a ride.

Trekking can be done anywhere in the world. Treks can be organised in any tourist or non-tourist areas in almost every country. A trek can be as long or as short as participants decide: a day, a few days, a week, or more. If you like you can go on an expedition for a year!

Trekking can be as physically demanding and adventurous as participants decide. The variety of trekking activities and a terrific choice of destinations attract a wide mix of participants to the joy of trekking.

Trekking is a different sort of travel activity. While planning is required, a trek is subject to the variables of nature. Trekkers move on foot through a variety of weather conditions and topography, and often through rural areas. Many experienced trekkers often travel through isolated areas. However, it is also common to do treks close to cities and towns as well.

The highlight of most treks is to get an up-close view of beautiful and awesome scenery. Trekking often allows you to interact with nature, by doing things like climbing rock walls or moving over a mountain or navigating an entire mountain range.

Trekking is best first done with someone who has experience or in a group led by a skilled trekker. This helps introduce newcomers to any special skills required to successfully make an overland journey of significant length.

Medium length treks usually only require average physical fitness and ability. Short treks can be accomplished by most healthy persons. Long treks require some ability to handle endurance and a very good degree of fitness.
